Counselors often have limited time to understand the context behind a student's writing, especially when supporting students at different stages of the application process. Instead of meeting every student at a blank page, you can spend more of your time helping them make stronger choices about the work already underway.

Open the invitation link the student sent you. The invitation carries the connection details needed to set up or sign in to your counselor account and connect with that student.
If you cannot find the invitation, ask the student to send a new one.

When a student shares a Story Direction, draft, Brag Sheet, or other supported application material with you, you can respond in context without gaining access to the private work behind it. Your comments arrive where the student will see them the next time they open that piece.
Writing support without replacing the student
StoryMap works like a writing coach.
It can ask questions, identify what is missing, help students organize and revise, and suggest or model language in smaller sections when useful.
The goal is not to hand students finished AI-written essays. We design the writing process so the final essay remains genuinely the student's work. StoryMap uses AI to support the coaching process, but the student remains the author.
StoryMap keeps writing history so students can revisit earlier versions and understand how their draft developed over time, without turning counselors into authorship investigators.
Students stay in control of what they share
Seeing that work exists is different from seeing what it says.
Connecting with a student gives you meaningful progress context. It does not automatically reveal their private Discovery responses, Story Bank, Story Directions, or writing.
Students choose which specific pieces to share with you and can revoke StoryMap access later. Sharing one piece does not automatically expose the private work behind it.
